Samsung Galaxy S8's Artificial Intelligence Bixby Will Also Recognize Images
It is now obvious that Samsung is working on an AI Assistant known as Bixby and this digital assistant will debut with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus in late March.
The Bixby AI Assistant is basically Samsung’s approach to digital voice assistants’ technology like Google Assistant, Microsoft Cortana, Apple Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. With this feature baked into Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, similar to Google Pixel and Pixel XL or Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, users of the flagships will be able to interact with the phones using voice commands.
Now, unlike the Google Assistant or Apple Siri that can only handle voice commands, it is said that Samsung’s Bixby will come with more than this. Apparently, the AI Assistant will enable Samsung Galaxy S8 to recognize images and give back feedback regarding the image in question. For instance, you can show Bixby a product and it will be able to scan it and give you details of the brand name, price, date of manufacture, expiry date and more.
Not so long ago, Samsung trademarked something called Bixby Vision. According to analysts, this could be the same image recognition technology we are talking about here.
In addition to using Bixby Vision in Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, the South Korean tech giant seems to be exploring other applications of this AI Assistant. Apparently, the same technology will at some point be focal when it comes to AR and VR products. For instance, it can easily be baked into smartglasses such that when one is wearing them, the Assistant will be able to see everything in front of the eyes and assist the user in any possible way needed, including identifying unknown details of different stuff, Android Soul notes.

Samsung Galaxy S8 users will be able to combine voice commands and image recognition capabilities of Bixby in their day-to-day activities. One can show it a product and pose a question about the product using your voice. Bixby will be able to give back immediate feedback based on what it can see via the camera.
Now, be warned that this is just a rumor and not an official communication from Samsung, but it would be interesting to have this technology baked into the upcoming flagships’ cameras.
