Android 8.0 – Oreo Rumours Roundup!

With the release of Android version 8 around the corner, the new features that the version promises are doing the rounds all over. There is hype about the question as to what Android 8 will be called. So far, we’ve had Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow and Nougat. A simple formula for naming; append a name beginning with the next alphabet in the iteration, and make sure its the name of a dessert or confectionary.
So what will Android 8.0 be called? What new features will we get to enjoy? More importantly – which phones will ship with Android 8.0 first? Let’s find out.
Following Google’s naming convention, the next letter for Android has to be ‘O’. On the downside, there seems to be a dearth of names of sweet food beginning with O. The big question is, what should Android 8.0 be called? Don’t stress out too much. Multiple sources have narrowed down the number of possible names to just a handful.

Android 8.0 Oreo

The world-famous Oreo Cookie
This hundred year old chocolate cream biscuit is anything but ordinary. Name the next version after a cookie that almost everyone knows about- makes sense doesn’t it? Popular all over the world, this candidate is most likely to be the winner in the naming game. If Google commercially ties up with Nabisco, that is (like it did with Nestle for Android 4.4 KitKat).

Android 8.0 Oatmeal Cookie

Another safe choice that involves the name of a cookie is Oatmeal Cookie; a baked delicacy that has Oats, and sometimes, raisins.

Android 8.0 Orange

If Google decides to go generic on this one, the sweet and simple (and sour, of course!) possibility is Android 8.0 Orange.

Android 8.0 Ox-Tongue Pastry

Don’t judge, this sweet dish has no actual ox-tongues in it! This is a pastry that is designed to look like a tongue or an ear. It is a popular Chinese breakfast dish which has a crunchy exterior crust with a soft interior.

Android 8.0 Ontbijtkoek

With this interesting name, Google is bound to win over Dutch and English fans. Ontbijtkoek is a kind of bread, flavoured with cinnamon, ginger and cloves.

The name of the next Android version is still a mystery. If you were to bet on it, Android Oreo would be your best bid. Google’s senior vice president of Android, Chrome OS and Google Play, recently tweeted a gif of an Oreo-based cake, almost as if to say, “Oreo it is!”

Features

According to VentureBeat, Android 8.0 could come with atleast 3 new features.

Copy Less

This is basically the ability of your phone to know beforehand a piece of text that you are going to use in an app. It does this by storing the previously typed word in an app, and suggesting this word when you’re typing in another app. For example, if you search for a restaurant online and then message a friend, after typing “It’s at”, the name of the places you searched for will automatically pop up. This will mostly be done via the Gboard virtual keyboard.

Address Sharing

According to VentureBeat, if you click on an address in a text message, Android O will automatically open it on Google Maps. This will facilitate sharing of addresses. How convenient! However, it is still not known whether this feature will work in any messaging app or specifically in Google’s Messages App.

New Gestures

This feature will allow the user to use gestures to open an app. Just drawing on screen the alphabet of the first letter of the app will open it. For example, drawing a C on screen will open the contacts menu. Right now, you can do this by using Ok Google, but this feature will definitely increase functionality.

Release Date

The Google I/O is an annual developer festival, held at Mountain View, California.
Android 8 will be previewed by this year’s google io, from May 17-19. Google I/O is the annual developer festival held at Mountain View, California. A developer preview will almost certainly be released then. Of course, Google could announce Android O in advance, just like it did with Android Nougat. Public release, on the other hand, could be as late as September.
This is the time when holiday shopping season begins, as a new OS perfectly complements the sale of new devices.

Devices

Not all phones, though, will have Android O by then. Google is likely release its flagship Pixel successor, which will ship with Android O pre-installed. On the other hand, other Smartphone companies such as Samsung, Sony, LG, HTC can expect to get Android O by early 2018. So you could look at the Samsung S9, the HTC 12, and others.
Though the exact features that will come with Android 8.0 O will only be known once Google unveils it, expect some clever, exciting stuff on the part of Google.

have a nice day  😊
